The Story He Crafts

“But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

There is a temptation in our lives to place weight on trying to figure out life circumstances apart from the presence of God. There is a temptation to seek first our own solutions. There is, as Pastor Jim highlighted on Sunday, a story we can tell ourselves which keeps us distant from God and the story He wrote for us. (more…)

Only Jesus

For those of you who haven’t heard, my father died this past Wednesday. Since I found out, I have been flooded by memories of my dad. He was a great husband, father, and preacher. I want to share some encouragement I’ve gained myself in thinking about my dad’s life. (more…)

This weekend during our Friday Encounter Service, we introduced a new song called Clean. Read the words:

I see shattered, you see whole
I see broken but you see beautiful
And you’re helping me to believe
You’re restoring me piece by piece

The Power Of Listening

In a world full of talking, tweeting, posting, and opinionating, the power of listening may have never been more in need. People seem to have a built-in desire to be heard and they are willing to do whatever it takes to let their thoughts and feelings be known to anyone and everyone around them. Talk, vent, explode, shout – just make sure your voice is audible above the crowd. (more…)

For Want of a Nail

I’m the queen of archaic phrases. Just ask my kids. I’m always saying something that no one says anymore, and I find myself having to explain more often than I’d like. This morning when I was getting ready, I realized I had forgotten to purchase half & half and I said to myself, “For want of a nail!” (more…)

Today I want to encourage and lift you up in the journey. I want you to know how loved you are by the Father, that He alone is your provider, sustainer, keeper, and the lifter of your head. That Jesus Christ is indeed seated on the throne, daily interceding for us. Jesus, our High Priest, who made a way for us to enter into the Holy Place, (more…)

A Day of Rejoicing

There’s an old hymn we used to sing. Be grateful this is a written word and I won’t be singing it to you, but the lyrics are this:

When we all get to heaven
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus, we’ll sing and shout the victory!

Certainly our arrival in heaven (more…)

To Serve and Give

As I sit here on Memorial Day I can’t help but think of all the women and men who have served our country and the many who lost their lives doing so. A soldier’s level of service is in response to truly believing in a cause greater than themselves. So it should be as Believers. When we believe (more…)

Remove Your Filter!

“God uses weak vessels”? Really? Yes – really! I know this because He uses me. You know this because He uses you. We are God’s deliberate “choice.”

1 Corinthians 1:27 says, “But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong,

Who do you consider “weak”? Remember, the weak are God’s own choice! (more…)

Calgon, Take Me Away!

If you have never uttered, or heard of this phrase, you are probably under 40. But, if you lived through 1970’s television commercials – before you could skip them – you would have seen a woman plagued by children, telephones, a husband, chores, meals, and pets begging for her bubble bath to bring her to a place of peace and serenity. (more…)
